Diode Laser - Hair Removal

depilacja laserowa

Laser therapy is currently the most effective and popular method of permanently getting rid of unwanted hair. Home methods in removing unnecessary hair, no matter which one we choose, require a lot of time and cause a lot of difficulties and frustration. Every woman dreams of getting rid of this problem once and for all.

However, it is important to know the structure of the hair and its growth phase, thanks to them we will better understand the laser in hair removal. The hair is built of a bulb, which consists of living cells that nourish the hair. The hair shaft is dead.

The hair growth cycle consists of three phases:

The first phase - Anagen, i.e. the period of intensive hair growth.

Second phase - Catagen follows anagen. This is the period when the hair goes into a resting state. During catagen, the hair bulb dies.

The third phase - Telogen is the final phase in which the hair is prepared to fall out. With the end of the telogen phase, the hair follicle re-enters the anagen phase and thus the whole cycle begins again.

Only during anagen the laser beam is able to permanently destroy the hair.

Factors that affect the duration of the anagen phase:

  • Body part treated
  • Patient age
  • Patient's gender
  • Patient's endocrine economy

How does a diode laser work?

The operation of the laser is based on the phenomenon of selective photothermolysis. The laser light is absorbed by a specific wavelength and a specific chromophore (photoacceptor), in this case it is melanin, i.e. a pigment found in the hair follicle and epidermal melanocytes. Selectively absorbed energy by melanin leads to damage to the hair structures that are responsible for its nourishment and growth. The consequence of this process is the loss and destruction of the follicles.

This phenomenon is most effective in people with fair skin and dark hair, who are in the active growth phase.

How many treatments should be performed to get the effect?

To obtain a satisfactory effect, a series of treatments should include from 4 to 8 visits at intervals of 4-6 weeks. It all depends on a few factors such as sex, age, area to be treated, hair growth phase, hormonal balance, skin phototype, amount of melanin in the hair follicle.

What happens to the hair after laser epilation?

After about two weeks after the treatment, the hair bulb begins to gradually die off, the hair falls out. After 4 weeks, new hair will appear, but it is finer and uneven. After a series of treatments, hair loss is estimated at 98.8%, only very delicate and single hairs remain.

Is laser hair removal performed only in autumn and winter?

Well, no, laser hair removal treatments can be performed all year round, but you must follow the appropriate post-treatment recommendations. In the summer, treatments are recommended for such parts of the body as: bikini, armpits or thighs. They can be easily and safely protected from solar radiation. However, the most important and safest thing after laser hair removal is to use filters with a high UV filter so that there are no burns, swelling or discoloration. Please note that the recovery period is not necessary after laser therapy, after the treatment you can easily return to your natural lifestyle.
